Grants and Contributions:
Multi-year project
The 36-month project seeks to develop collaborative and coordinated community-led responses to prevent and address the sexual exploitation and human trafficking of Indigenous girls and women. The organization will engage stakeholders, including communities, elders, Indigenous youth, school districts, law enforcement agencies and service providers, to collectively examine the underlying causes of vulnerability to sexual exploitation and human trafficking in communities across British Columbia. Community-led responses will be developed to address the need for education specifically designed, for and with, high-risk Indigenous youth with respect to understanding human trafficking and exploitation; sexual exploitive behaviors and vulnerability of Indigenous girls from rural and remote communities who are being lured through online social platforms. The organization will disseminate the information gathered from the community-led responses with its 25 member Friendship Centres in British Columbia and other partners across the province to incorporate into their regular programming.
