Description:
The contribution to Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs in collaboration with the National Claims Research Directors and the Indigenous Bar Association is a project to assess the impacts of Bill C-58 on First Nations. This project represents an initial step towards addressing information needs and challenges in relation to First Nations’ claims, by undertaking research and analysis, and beginning a substantive dialogue between the First Nations and Canada regarding reforms to the access to information processes. This will contribute to knowledge of the emerging public service policy of Indigenous access to information issues, along with improving public sector research and management by including the perspectives of Indigenous stakeholder groups.
The Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs in collaboration with the National Claims Research Directors and the Indigenous Bar Association will conduct an online national survey of selected First Nation community of researchers and policy staff, a legal review of Bill C-58, and produce and publish on the applicant's website a discussion paper of the results of the survey and review, to raise awareness of the findings to various stakeholders.
