Through this 21-month project by ANSWERS, women will advance their knowledge about violence against them, lack of knowledge about support networks and resources and address systemic barriers to their inclusion within Canadian society. The women will unite their forces and knowledge to develop strategies to address integration, inequality and human rights issues. Project activities will implement a Town Hall Meeting (Needs Assessment), workshops, networking opportunities, and an Assembly for women to have a sustained dialogue, knowledge acquisition and create a support system to breakdown barriers and enhance their knowledge about opportunities, resources and tools available to them. Finally, project activities will create an educational resource that will be used for statistical data providing more accurate information about the sex work industry, its challenges so that communities, educators and stakeholders can combat together the systemic barriers and violence against women within this industry. Furthermore, in partnership with the City of Edmonton, HIV Edmonton, Alberta Sex Positive Education And Community Centre, this project will provide an opportunity for various stakeholders from across the country to work together to address barriers to health and safety that female sex workers face in light of stigma and about an industry that is often misunderstood.
