Description:
This 29-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19, through systemic change. Sanare Centre (formally known as Southeastern Alberta Sexual Assault Response Committee) will achieve this by using a norm-based prevention program developed specifically for young men living in rural/small urban centers (in schools and sports team), that are at high-risk of perpetuating harmful masculinities, gender norms, behaviors and attitudes. An environmental scan, need assessment, relationship building , marketing campaign and a mentoring/training program will be completed and community engagement strategy to be developed to build capacity for the boys to become leaders among their peer groups by working with a local positive masculinity men’s group to train men as community champions and to use gender-transformative practices.
At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by addressing persistent and harmful gender norms and attitudes to support women’s equality.
The outcomes of the program will be measured through pre/post surveys to gauge participant opinions on statements related to gender equity and gender-based violence. Furthermore, a developmental evaluation will be implemented from the onset of the program to track stakeholder opinions as well as any necessary program modifications due to COVID-19/unpredictable circumstances.
