Description:
This 29-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19, through systemic change. North End Women’s Centre Inc. will achieve this by developing, integrating and implementing new inclusive policies and procedures through an anti-oppressive and decolonizing framework; they will collaborate with partners through a community of practice to support their development and implementation of anti-oppressive and decolonizing policies and practices; they will increase representation of lived experience of Indigenous, racialized, newcomer women, women who are LGBTQ2+ and marginalized voices through the creation of an Advisory Committee as well as a Lived-Experience Mentorship Program within their community of practice; and provide organization wide anti-oppression training and media communication training, allowing for increase reporting to media outlets and advocate for changes to systemic gender biases in messaging.
At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by advancing inclusive policies and practices, encouraging more equitable and effective sharing of resources, increasing networks and collaboration to accelerate systemic change, supporting positive distribution of authority, voices, and decision-making power, and addressing persistent harmful gender norms and attitudes to support women’s equality.
North End Women’s Centre will work with a variety of partners through a community of practice, including West Central Women’s Resource Centre, Manitoba Harm Reduction Network, Rainbow Resource Centre, Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba, and Ka Ni Kanichihk, among others. The organization will also work with Health in Common to develop and implement an evaluation framework as part of their project.
