Description:
This 27-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19, through systemic change. The Nova Scotia Native Women's Association will address systemic barriers imposed on First Nations, Indigenous and Mi’kmaq communities in accessing adequate housing and infrastructure. This will be achieved by creating equitable Mi’kmaq First Nation housing policy templates to be utilized by Mi’kmaq elected leadership, by creating a Nationhood strategic plan to engage, identify and find solutions to address the Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq housing crisis.
At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by advancing inclusive policies and practices, and by increasing networks and collaboration to accelerate systemic change to support Indigenous women’s equality and to eliminate discriminatory housing policies and practices in Mi’kmaq First Nation communities.
The Nova Scotia Native Women's Association will work with the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq Chiefs, the Mi'kmaq Native Friendship Center, the Wabanaki Two-Spirit Alliance and the Nova Scotia Tripartite Forum.
