Description:
This 22-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19, through systemic change. Liard Aboriginal Women’s Society (LAWS) will achieve this by recruiting and orienting advocates, collaboratively designing the Kaska Advocates leadership pilot, developing resources and protocol, increasing access to cultural services for victims, conducting a full cycle evaluation, facilitating peer supports for advocates, encouraging greater collaboration between organizations, and undertaking knowledge dissemination activities.
At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by advancing inclusive policies and practices, encouraging more equitable and effective sharing of resources, increasing networks and collaboration to accelerate systemic change, supporting positive distribution of authority, voices, and decision-making power, and addressing persistent harmful gender norms and attitudes.
LAWS will collaborate with Lower Post, Daylu Dena Council and Help and Hope for Families and Safe Home to create a program model that provides work placement opportunities for four Indigenous women to act as agents of change within the existing system.
