This 27-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19 through systemic change. Power to Girls Foundation will achieve this by (1) building and maintaining relationships with the school boards they will be collaborating with; (2) establishing a working group representing a diversity of perspectives/realities (geographic, socio-economic factors, etc.) to ensure project intersectionality and relevance across the schooling system ; (3) assessing the needs and gaps in the current education system to highlight the challenges of black and marginalized girls; (4) creating and testing a tailored program based on recommendations, (5) designing and sharing best practices that partners can leverage to address the systematic barriers of their students. At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by supporting positive distribution of authority, voices, and decision-making power, increasing networks and collaboration to accelerate systemic change, persistent and harmful gender norms, and attitudes to support women’s equality.
