Healing From Sexual Violence Through Alternative Justice Project

This 30-month project will support a feminist response and recovery to address the current impacts of COVID-19 pandemic, through systemic change. Women Against Violence Against Women Rape Crisis Centre will achieve this by conducting research and community consultation with LGBTQ2, racialized and sex worker communities. It will complete a needs analysis within sexual assault centres and anti-violence organizations to develop and offer alternative justice programs, and create alternative justice emerging practices workshops and webinars for community members. At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by encouraging more equitable and effective sharing of resources, increasing networks and collaboration to accelerate systemic change, supporting positive distribution of authority, voices, and decision-making power. It will have also addressed+C8 persistent harmful gender norms and attitudes to support women’s equality.

The purpose of the Women’s Program is to advance equality for women in Canada by working to address or remove systemic barriers impeding women’s progress and advancement. It is consistent with Government of Canada priorities related to economic prosperity, and supports Canada’s international commitments related to gender equality.
