Description:
Through this 41 -month project Nishnawbe Aski Nation Corporate Services (NAN) will increase its ability to address gender-based violence against Indigenous women, girls, 2SLGBTQI+ people in 49 First Nation communities within northern Ontario. This will be achieved by building evidence and knowledge by NAN to develop a GBV Strategic Plan that will guide future programming, policies and advocacy work. The project will engage NAN departments, NAN Advisory Councils, community members and local organizations with subject matter expertise. They will identify and secure training for NAN staff, build evidence and knowledge by completing an internal review, identifying existing services, programs, needs and gaps in the community, and develop an internal communication campaign. By the end of the project, Nishnawbe Aski Nation Corporate Services will have strengthened their capacity to address GBV against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people through the development of an informed NAN Corporates Services GBV Strategic Plan.

Advancement towards a greater understanding of the intersection of sex and gender with other identity factors that include race, national and ethnic origin, Indigenous origin or identity, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic condition, place of residence and disability are encouraged under the Program.
