Description:
Through this 41-month project, North Island Métis Association (NIMA) will increase its ability to prevent and address gender-based violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, with a focus on Metis Women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people in Northern Vancouver Island. This will be achieved by using a GBA Plus lens to review the organization’s current policies and to develop and implement an anti-violence procedures manual. This project will engage Métis women, 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, Elders, and community members to inform the process by including their recommendations and ongoing feedback. By the end of the project, NIMA will have strengthened their capacity to prevent and address GBV against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, with a focus on Métis women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people in Northern Vancouver Island.

Advancement towards a greater understanding of the intersection of sex and gender with other identity factors that include race, national and ethnic origin, Indigenous origin or identity, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic condition, place of residence and disability are encouraged under the Program.
