Description:
Through this 36-month project, Nisohkamakewin Foundation will increase its ability to prevent and address gender-based violence (GBV) against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals, with a focus on individuals experiencing domestic violence in Spruce Grove, Alberta. This will be achieved through community consultations with those who have lived experience of GBV; by providing professional training related to GBV for staff and board members; by developing and implementing a holistic organizational review of policy on equity and inclusion through development and modification of a curriculum; and the provision of community and stakeholder information sessions related to GBV+ experienced by Indigenous women and girls. An evaluation tool will also be developed to ensure project objectives are being met, and knowledge gained in this project will be shared within the community to create and strengthen partnerships with other service providers to build their capacity in turn. By the end of this project, Nisohkamakewin Foundation will have strengthened their own capacity to prevent and address GBV against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people with a focus on individuals leaving situations of domestic violence.
