Scaling Up and Sustaining Informed Opinions' Capacity to Achieve Gender Equality in the Media

This 36–month project addresses two interdependent objectives: scaling up Informed Opinions’ impact and securing its sustainability. The funds requested will eliminate current over-reliance on its founder, develop critical infrastructure and increase the organization’s capacity for proactive engagement in a disrupted media environment. Board and professional development, strategic and communications planning, and other targeted supports will help to significantly diversify and expand revenues through enhanced program delivery, increased fundraising and partnership development capacity. The project will facilitate a tripling of the annual budget and corresponding resources into accelerated advocacy and impact to achieve equality for women as sources in Canadian news media. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Informed Opinions has pivoted to delivering programming online and is developing an online initiative aimed at documenting and mobilizing a response to the impact of cyber-hate on women participating in public discourse. This "Our Digital Rights" campaign will address two of the three original capacity-building goals: to diversify revenue sources through expanded fundraising capacity and to translate this capacity into accelerated advocacy and enduring impact. The additional funding will benefit the project by allowing the organization to: map out safety platform architecture for donor presentations; develop a case for support and build out donor levels; and identify and qualify 15 donor prospects.

Women's Program

The purpose of the Women’s Program is to advance equality for women in Canada by working to address or remove systemic barriers impeding women’s progress and advancement. The WP supports the Government of Canada’s goal of advancing gender equality in Canada. It is consistent with Government of Canada priorities related to economic prosperity, and supports Canada’s international commitments related to gender equality.
