Description:

Through this 35-month project, Ilitaqsiniq will increase its ability to prevent and address gender-based violence against Indigenous women, girls, or 2SLGBTQI+ people in Nunavut. This will be achieved by improving the way they plan ensuring gender equity is built into their foundation, increasing their effectiveness at recruiting, and retaining staff, increasing staff knowledge including 2SLGBTQI+ and Trauma Informed awareness, building a 2SLGBTQI+ innovative work pan-northern partnership network. By the end of the project, Ilitaqsiniq will have strengthened its capacity to prevent and fight gender-based violence against Indigenous 2SLGBTQI+ women, girls and people.

The purpose of ESSOGIE program is to advance social, political and economic equality with respect to sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

Advancement towards a greater understanding of the intersection of sex and gender with other identity factors that include race, national and ethnic origin, Indigenous origin or identity, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic condition, place of residence and disability are encouraged under the Program.
