Description:
Through this 36-month project, Wahbung Abinoonjiiag Inc. will increase its ability to prevent and address gender-based violence (GBV) against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ persons with a focus on organizational capacity building involving community participation. This will be achieved through review and improvement to the organizations governance processes; community-led organizational strategic planning; data management system implementation; internal analysis of programming and systemic advocacy within the GBV sector; staff training in GBV prevention; and community/survivor-led strategic planning for safe and affordable housing initiatives through the organization’s new housing entity. The project will engage community members, gender-based violence survivors, and partnerships like those with the Manitoba Government’s Family Violence Prevention Program and End Homelessness Winnipeg in the strategic planning processes to ensure long-term organizational sustainability and to include consultation, feedback, and support to meet the complex, ever-changing needs of Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ victims and survivors of gender-based violence. By the end of the project Wahbung Abinoonjiiag Inc. will have strengthened their capacity to prevent and address GBV against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ peoples in the North End of Winnipeg.
