Through this 28-month project, the National Family and Survivors Circle Inc. (NFSC) will increase its ability to prevent and address Gender-Based Violence (GBV) against Indigenous Women and Girls (IWG), and 2SLGBTQI+ people and advocate for the implementation of the 231 Calls for Justice from the National Inquiry on MMIWG Final Report, the National Action Plan on MMIWG and 2SLGBTQI+ People, and the Federal Pathway. This will be achieved through four project components: the development, implementation, and piloting of their foundational documents, including a strategic plan; the expansion of partnerships, networks, and collaboration on advocacy initiatives to prevent GBV; the development and implementation of an advocacy strategy to contribute to creating transformative change; and the creation of a platform to elevate voices and perspectives of IWG2SLGBTQI+, survivors of gender- and race-based violence, and impacted families of MMIWG2S+. This project will allow for the NFSC to strengthen their organizational capacity as a newly established national Indigenous organization, and to include the voices of IWG 2SLGBTQI+ in their foundational organizational structure, processes, and strategic plan. It will also allow the organization to increase its diversity, connect with targeted populations and build partnerships for collaboration on advocacy activities. A national engagement and survey will be conducted to development a platform to include the voices and perspectives of IWG 2SLGBTQI+, survivors of gender- and race-based violence, and impacted families of MMIWG2S+, as a central component of the ongoing evidence base which is critical to informing partnership-building, developing an advocacy strategy, and preparing NFSC for participation in program, policy, and legislative consultations.

The purpose of the Women’s Program is to advance equality for women in Canada by working to address or remove systemic barriers impeding women’s progress and advancement. The WP supports the Government of Canada’s goal of advancing gender equality in Canada. It is consistent with Government of Canada priorities related to economic prosperity, and supports Canada’s international commitments related to gender equality.
