Description:
Through this 32-month project, Nisohkamakewin Foundation will address barriers to women’s success through systemic change to help improve women's economic security and prosperity in Alberta. This will be achieved by activating its member branches and broader networks across the regions to engage in education and advocacy that will challenge systemic economic inequality for women and gender-diverse people in the care economy, specifically addressing the needs of Indigenous women, women, non-binary, and trans people who are racialized. Key activities include conducting a gender norms and attitude assessment to address organizational assumptions and biases, staff training to improve and increase confidence in public speaking, facilitations, and negotiation skills, development of a representation and mentorship program to increase involvement in the decision-making processes, as well as conducting research and collecting lived experiences from indigenous women to inform policy review, development and implementation. An external evaluator will measure and assess the impact of the systemic change project to ensure that the project supports their goal of addressing, mitigating and eliminating systemic barriers women face in economic and leadership opportunities.
