Through this 15-month project, THS Society of Transition Houses will scale the Cedar Blankets Service Delivery Model to strengthen the GBV sector. It will scale to 4 new sites and regions within British Columbia. It will address the need for access to culturally responsive shelters and wraparound supports for Indigenous women and girls. To do so, the project will consult, launch and support the creation of 4 sites and 4 Indigenous Women’s Councils, develop a community of practice with the existing Cedar Blankets’ sites and Indigenous Women’s Councils, engage Elder and Youth representatives as mentors to build the capacity of the sites, create promotional videos, develop and host in-person knowledge sharing gatherings and complete a comprehensive project evaluation. THS Society of Transition Houses will disseminate the final evaluation, promotional videos and project report to sites, project partners, THS Society of Transition members through their networks and website to share information on the promising practice with others so that they may replicate it or expand upon it.

Program Purpose:

The purpose of the GBV Program is to strengthen the GBV sector to address gaps in supports for two groups of survivors: 1) Indigenous women and their communities, and 2) underserved populations (including women living with a disability, non-status/refugee /immigrant women, LGBTQ2S, gender non-conforming people and ethno-cultural women) in Canada. The Program provides grant and contribution funding to Canadian organizations to improve supports to help create long-term, comprehensive solutions at the national, regional, and local levels.
