This 43-month project is a funding initiative that will first work to reinforce Inuit women and girls’ leadership and governance skills by engaging community, regional and territorial stakeholders in the organization of a Women and Girls Leadership and Governance Forum. Following the forum, various workshops and one on one mentorship will be delivered as a pilot activity in multiple communities of one chosen region of Nunavut with the collaboration of community level partners. Workshops will explore themes touching on economic security and prosperity, women’s empowerment and involvement in political and community action participation, using GBA+ in the analysis of ways to address population needs. Possibilities for implementing a Leadership and Governance academic program or curriculum will be explored with high schools and the Nunavut Arctic College. The project will also evaluate the potential replicability of the pilot activity in other regions of Nunavut.
