Description:
During this 49-month project, the FCJ Refugee Centre, along with project collaborators, will develop and implement promising intervention practices that will advance knowledge and enhance empowerment supports for at-risk populations and survivors of human trafficking in Toronto. Specifically, the project will create a peer led model, outlining best practices, to provide information, resources, connections and supports to survivors of human trafficking.
This will be achieved through a trauma informed approach, and the implementation of a gendered feminist lens, to create and provide resources in a safe environment, encouraging women to make informed decisions about their lives and futures.
At the end of the project, the organization will have developed an outreach plan through a Women’s Steering Committee which will host Community building and women’s connection seminars across GTA and Ontario; it will collect anecdotal quantitative and qualitative data to initiate increased geographic span case management practices and develop a report outlining best practices for service delivery, and supporting skills development.
The project will include an external evaluation that will look at the success and scalability of the promising practices.
The supplemental funding will permit the organization to continue implementing its Promising Practice and reach an additional 50 to 75 survivors of human trafficking. Additionally, the organization will carry out a focus group with survivors of Human Trafficking, at-risk populations, and service providers to inform the implementation of the best practices report.

Program Purpose:
The purpose of the GBV Program is to strengthen the GBV sector to address gaps in supports for two groups of survivors: 1) Indigenous women and their communities, and 2) underserved populations (including women living with a disability, non-status/refugee /immigrant women, LGBTQ2S, gender non-conforming people and ethno-cultural women) in Canada. The Program provides grant and contribution funding to Canadian organizations to improve supports to help create long-term, comprehensive solutions at the national, regional, and local levels.
