Description:
This 30-month project will develop and implement culturally sensitive prevention focused initiatives to combat gender-based violence, engage men and boys as allies to combat harmful gender norms and attitudes, and engage women with lived experience to influence pandemic recovery responses. This will be achieved through a series of focused group discussions, development of educational videos, and conducting skills building workshops on relevant topics. All activities will engage men and boys. Trained Community Animators will support, educate, and empower South Asian women at risk of or experiencing domestic violence.
At the end of the project, the organization will have changed norms and attitudes engaging men and women to prevent gender-based violence for South Asian women and supported positive distribution of authority and voices. The findings, learnings, and successes of the project will be shared at a conference to be organized at the end of the project. The effectiveness of these initiatives will be documented through an external project evaluation. Key project partners include Punjabi Community Health Services, Shades of Brown Girls, Peel Children’s Aid Society, Red FM, Prime Asia, e-Awaaz.
Supplemental funding will be used to expand the engagement of South Asian men and women from Mississauga and Brampton (Peel Region), to also reach Milton (Halton Region), and North York (Toronto Region).

Program Purpose:
The purpose of the GBV Program is to strengthen the GBV sector to address gaps in supports for two groups of survivors: 1) Indigenous women and their communities, and 2) underserved populations (including women living with a disability, non-status/refugee /immigrant women, LGBTQ2S, gender non-conforming people and ethno-cultural women) in Canada. The Program provides grant and contribution funding to Canadian organizations to improve supports to help create long-term, comprehensive solutions at the national, regional, and local levels.
