An intersectional approach based on a diagnostic-action method

As part of this 36-month project, La Société Elizabeth Fry du Québec (SEFQ) will develop and implement an individualized and holistic approach to intervention with at-risk women in court, victims or survivors of human trafficking in Quebec by applying an intersectional lens based on a diagnostic-Action, which will enhance knowledge and support to empower women who are or have been incarcerated. This objective will be achieved through the work of the intervenor 1) targeting women whose release is imminent or with charges related to drug use, street gang membership, pimping, 2) diagnosis: intersectional analysis of needs, 3) development of the exit plan and personalized action strategy and 4) follow-up; adjustments, support in custody and in community. By the end of the project, the organization will have implemented and evaluated the effectiveness of an individualized and holistic approach to intervention with at-risk female offenders, victims or survivors of human trafficking. Participants will have developed their autonomy, implemented problem-solving strategies, worked on their self-esteem and initiated a process of change. The project will include an external evaluation. The objective of the external evaluation will be to assess promising practices that have been developed, tested and carried out throughout this project. The evaluator will be external to the organization and have the experience and expertise required for the evaluation.

Gender-Based Violence Program

The purpose of the GBV Program is to strengthen the GBV sector to address gaps in supports for two groups of survivors: 1) Indigenous women and their communities, and 2) underserved populations (including women living with a disability, non-status/refugee /immigrant women, LGBTQ2S, gender non-conforming people and ethno-cultural women) in Canada. The Program provides grant and contribution funding to Canadian organizations to improve supports to help create long-term, comprehensive solutions at the national, regional, and local levels.
