Description:

This 44-month project addresses organizational capacity needs through expansion of Egale’s research capacity and positioning the organization as a National LGBTQ2 Research Lab/Hub in order to ensure greater accessibility to knowledge, expertise, and best practices to address discrimination and oppression experienced by members of the LGBTQ2 community in Canada. Organizational capacity is being enhanced through establishing a National LGBTQ2 Academic Advisory Council; developing an online research hub; completing a literature review and conducting preliminary research summaries on key areas of interest; and promoting the research hub and individual studies and findings via online communication channels.

In the second phase of the project, Egale will fortify sector knowledge and access to data, strengthen networks, advance intersectionality and build internal organizational human resource and strategic planning capacity. These objectives will be achieved through expanding and solidifying the National LGBTQI2S Academic Advisory Committee, conducting critical research into key issue areas and addressing human resources and strategic planning needs within the organization.

In the third phase of the project, Egale will continue to build their knowledge, expertise and create best practices for solutions to address discrimination and oppression experienced by members of the LGBTQI2S community in Canada.

Expected Results:

Partnerships and collaborations are established and/or strengthened to support the LGBTQ2 movement LGBTQ2 organizations have increased knowledge and capacity to advance equality with respect to sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.

Description:

This 27-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19 through systemic change. Community Innovative Alliances Incorporated will achieve this by: (1) setting up focus groups and collecting surveys to identify and raise awareness of the socio-economic impact of Covid 19 on ethnic women, namely around food insecurity, housing and employment; (2) setting up an advisory Committee to discuss the recommendations from the surveys; 3) Engaging with 5 key partners on the main findings and proposing solutions on gender inequalities amongst African descendants and building and strengthening partnerships; and (4) building and maintaining collaborative work between equality seeking organizations and other stakeholders across sectors to advance gender equality.

At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by advancing inclusive policies and practices, encouraging more effective and equitable sharing of resources, supporting positive distribution of authority, voices, and decision-making power, increasing networks and collaboration to accelerate systemic change, persistent and harmful gender norms, and attitudes to support women’s equality.

Women and stakeholders have access to supports to address issues relating to equality between women and men.
