Description:
This 59-month project will strengthen Ka Ni Kanichihk’s capacity to prevent gender-based violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ peoples through the improvement of partnerships, sharing of information and the development of skill-based tools. Specifically, the project will hire a GBV Capacity Coordinator and Project Facilitator who will lead the development of a forum of networks and training sessions to strengthen capacity and advance GBV work within organizations and communities. The project will further develop existing Ending Violence Against Women educational materials to create a new Manitoba-based Indigenous Toolkit and a GBV evaluation and risk framework to pilot for participating partners and networks working in or seeking to work within GBV. Ka Ni Kanichihk will collaborate with the Manitoba Harm Reduction Network on the capacity building content. Their ten regional harm reduction and sexual health networks will ensure provincial reach distribution channels throughout Manitoba. At the end of this project, Ka Ni Kanichihk will have strengthened their own capacity while also providing resources and guidance to partners across Manitoba to prevent and address gender-based violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people. With the supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, Ka Ni Kanichihk will expand organizational capacity to address healing and prevention strategies for gendered violence against women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people; Increase impact and effectiveness of Ka Ni Kanichihk's youth programs to address, respond to, and prevent gender-based violence; and Formalize and strengthen GBV service coordination and navigation.
