Through this 34-month systemic change project, the Elizabeth Fry Society of Saskatchewan will help advance Indigenous women with lived experience of incarceration representation in leadership and decision-making roles through systemic change. Specifically, the project will address systemic barriers within the colonial, capitalist, and criminal justice systems through the development of a decolonization toolkit and education opportunities for non-profit organization wishing to hire those with barriers; the development of a leadership mentorship program; and the creation of a professional job skills development program.
The Society will employ a collaborative partnership approach with organizations such as the Métis Nation Saskatchewan, Aboriginal Friendship Centres of Saskatchewan and the Elizabeth Fry Societies in Alberta and Manitoba to help understand the needs of underserved populations and demonstrate a commitment to reconciliation, decolonization and the empowerment of marginalized communities.
An external evaluator will measure and assess the impact of the systemic change project. A report will be shared with non-profit organizations to contribute to the broader discussion on inclusion, diversity and reconciliation in the workplace and beyond.
