Through this 30-month project, Ancestral Hands Foundation will build its capacity to advance gender equality. It will address the governance and operational needs experienced by this evolving Black-led, Black-focused, and Black-serving women’s organization. The project will include identifying key organizational needs and developing an action plan; reviewing and adapting financial management infrastructure and verifying legal compliance; undertaking strategic planning; building good governance practices; enhancing senior management and board competencies; and developing and piloting marketing and communications strategies. With the Supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, Ancestral Hands Midwives will establish clear staffing structures and staff workplans, implement core governance systems, strengthen financial sustainability, investigate charitable status readiness, and engage in government and strategic partnerships. Through this they will further advance Gender Equality.

Women's Program

The purpose of the Women’s Program is to advance equality for women in Canada by working to address or remove systemic barriers impeding women’s progress and advancement. The WP supports the Government of Canada’s goal of advancing gender equality in Canada. It is consistent with Government of Canada priorities related to economic prosperity, and supports Canada’s international commitments related to gender equality.
