Representatives from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) will meet during dinner with leadership from Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation (WLON) to discuss issues related to the Nuclear Waste Management Organization's (NWMO) initiative to find a willing and informed host community for a deep geological repository for Canada's used nuclear fuel. The meeting will begin with introductions, followed-by WLON introducing their community and their role in the NWMO's initiative. IAAC will give an update on the process that the NWMO's project will be reviewed through, as well as a status update on IAAC's response to the Supreme Court of Canada's October 2023 opinion on the constitutionality of the Impact Assessment Act - amendments to ensure constitutionality. IAAC, the CNSC and WLON will then discuss collaboration as the NWMO's initiative advances. This dinner meeting provides the CNSC an opportunity to hear directly from WLON leadership on an anticipated project of priority for the CNSC.A10
