Updates
2023-12
Protocols have been established with a mechanism for the approval of federal data standards, comprised of various governing bodies, including the Community of Practice on Data and Information (CPDI); Chief Data Officer Council (CDOC); and the ADM Committee on Data and Information (ADM CDI); as well as logical prescription by the Government of Canada Chief Information Officer. Templates and tools are being tested and developed to usher initiatives and instruments through this pipeline. The Data Reference Standard on Canadian Provinces and Territories was published on October 2nd, 2023, as the first GC Data Reference Standard to successfully go through this process . It is intended to standardize the way Canadian Provinces and Territories are described in datasets. Subsequently, the data reference standard on industry classification system was published on December 15th, 2023. This reference standard is intended to standardize the way industry classifications are described in datasets. Also, the data reference standard on country codes was approved on January 29th, 2023. This data reference standard is intended to standardize the way country codes are described in datasets.
Governance pipeline has been established and prioritized for data reference standards.
An internal GC data reference standards tracker on the ADM Committee on Data and Information's GCXchange site has been developed. This tracker allows for greater transparency of forthcoming standards and to help establish stewardship.
