Updates

2026-06
Status:
Substantial progress
Evidence of progress:

The VAC Open Government Working group was established in March 2026, and held two meetings between March and May. Membership is a combination of those whose participation is aligned with their work, and those who volunteered based on an interest in moving forward the Open Government agenda, or supporting collaboration through shared data. The group is in it's early stages, and the focus has been on learning from past publication experiences, assessing what information is held and what privacy and security considerations would need to be indentified and addressed before publication could be considered. The group discussed the development of a release checklist that will be prepared. A future goal has been established to invite another department to attend one of the Open Government Working Group meetings to learn from their experience and to ask questions about how they identified materials for posting.

Evidence:

Meetings of the newly established Open Government Working Group were held on March 30 and May 6.

Challenges:

The enthusiasm and commitment of the group exceeded expectations, however the commitment of time and resources for the initiative when coupled with operational expectations was noted as a concern. Working group members voted on a meeting schedule of once a month.
