This GIS dataset is a compilation of existing surficial map information for Alberta, edited for mapping continuity and generalized to make it suitable for presentation and use at 1:1,000,000 scale. It is the dataset used to create Alberta Geological Survey Map 601: Surficial Geology of Alberta. The data were prepared from an intermediate dataset (Alberta Geological Survey DIG 2013-0001), which was edgematched and then the boundaries between similar polygons were 'dissolved.' The residual dataset was then generalized selectively using the Geological Survey of Canada's GeoScaler software. We then added attributes describing the generalized polygons, including unit description, texture, genetic group, …
The data, created in ArcGIS, represents an assessment of air quality risk for the agricultural area of Alberta in 2005. Agricultural activities that may have some influence on air quality manure production (odour) and cultivation intensity (particulate matter). The airsheds of the agricultural region of Alberta are considered to be uniform in their physical susceptibility to risk from agricultural activities. Air quality risk is a useful measure for those concerned about health, safety and nuisance issues related the quality of air in agricultural areas. Awareness of where agricultural activities related to livestock production and intensive cultivation are located, may be …
This GIS dataset depicts the surficial geology of the NTS map area 83N northeast (point features). The data are created in ArcInfo format and output for public distribution in Arc export (.e00) and ESRI shapefile format.
This GIS dataset is a GIS version of AGS Map 178, polygon features, as mapped at 1:250,000-scale by Fenton and Andriashek. Digitizing was originally done by Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration (PFRA). The data were supplied to AGS by PFRA in Arc/Info coverage format (map polygon features only). Data were subsequently checked and edited by AGS.
All available bathymetry and related information for Goose Lake were collected and hard copy maps digitized where necessary. The data were validated against more recent data (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 'SRTM' imagery and Indian Remote Sensing 'IRS' imagery) and corrected where necessary. The published data set contains the lake bathymetry formatted as an Arc ascii grid. Bathymetric contours and the boundary polygon are available as shapefiles.
All available bathymetry and related information for Utikuma Lake were collected and hard copy maps digitized where necessary.
Mountain Goat and Sheep Ranges were determined from both observations (telemetry and aerial sheep/goat surveys) and habitat suitability indexes. Goat and sheep ranges have been buffered by 800m to derive zones. Range delineation encompasses use during all seasons. To identify goat and sheep ranges in an effort to: a) avoid land use disturbances that may have a direct or indirect adverse effect on the behavior of the animals, and b) avoid permanent alteration of physical habitat conditions. An area south of Grande Prairie was added to the layer in November 2022.

The Geological Atlas of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin was designed primarily as a reference volume documenting the subsurface geology of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. This GIS dataset is one of a collection of shapefiles representing part of Chapter 9 of the Atlas, Middle Ordovician to Lower Devonian Strata of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, Figure 24, Red River Isopach and Lithofacies. Shapefiles were produced from archived digital files created by the Alberta Geological Survey in the mid-1990s, and edited in 2005-06 to correct, attribute and consolidate the data into single files by feature type and by figure.
