The Geological Atlas of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin was designed primarily as a reference volume documenting the subsurface geology of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. This GIS dataset is one of a collection of shapefiles representing part of Chapter 18 of the Atlas, Jurassic and Lowermost Cretaceous Strata of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, Figure 17, Jurassic Structure. Shapefiles were produced from archived digital files created by the Alberta Geological Survey in the mid-1990s, and edited in 2005-06 to correct, attribute and consolidate the data into single files by feature type and by figure.

This GIS dataset depicts the surficial geology of the NTS map area 84B (polygon features). The 1:250 000 scale dataset was compiled from four published 1:100 000 scale maps (AGS maps 265, 266, 267 and 267). The aggregated data was generalized based on lithologic unit name. The process was overseen by the mapping geologist.The data are created in ArcInfo format and output for public distribution in Arc export (E00) and shapefile formats.

This GIS dataset depicts a geostatistical model of the thickness of sediment overlying bedrock in Alberta. The sediment thickness surface was generated to assist the construction of a new geological framework for Alberta. The surface was derived by subtracting the bedrock topography of Alberta (Alberta Geological Survey Map 550) from the 60 m Shuttle Radar Topography Mission digital elevation model. These data comprise the raster surface of Alberta Geological Survey Map 551, Thickness of Quaternary and Neogene Sediment in Alberta, Canada.
