The first clue to the presence of possible diamond-bearing source rocks in northern Alberta was the discovery of a perfect octahedral diamond, estimated at about 0.83 carats in weight, by farm worker Einar Opdahl during 1958 in the Evansburg area of west-central Alberta. Since the Opdahl diamond, no new diamond finds were reported in northern Alberta until the 1990s, when several occurrences of alluvial diamond and diamondiferous kimberlite were discovered.

The Geological Atlas of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin was designed primarily as a reference volume documenting the subsurface geology of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. This GIS dataset is one of a collection of shapefiles representing part of Chapter 23 of the Atlas, Cretaceous Cardium Formation of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, Figure 4b, Middle Cardium Formation Paleogeography. Shapefiles were produced from archived digital files created by the Alberta Geological Survey in the mid-1990s, and edited in 2005-06 to correct, attribute and consolidate the data into single files by feature type and by figure.

This is a GIS dataset containing digitized and attributed polygon features from scanned Alberta Geological Survey Maps 201, 202, 203 and 204. The data show the supplemental surficial geology of the Calgary urban area (NTS areas 82O/01, 82P/04, 82J/16 and 82I/13). Polygons, representing a discontinuous layer, are attributed as sand and silt veneer or buried sand, as shown on the maps. The data from the four maps are presented in a single polygon layer.

Alberta Geological Survey created a coal and coalbed methane (CBM) database to capture and manage CBM data. The database compiles different sources and contains information on 7923 wells (15,200 formation picks, 37,357 coal picks, 495 coal analyses and 363 vitrinite reflectance measurements). From this parent dataset, individual coal zones were evaluated. This record describes the Ardley Coal Zone's calculated gas-in-place in Bcf/section.
