In 2014, the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) initiated a Play-Based Regulation (PBR) pilot project as a step towards implementation of the Unconventional Regulatory Framework. One of the goals of the PBR pilot is to encourage companies in the unconventional play area to work together on plans for surface development to minimize the numbers of facilities and surface impacts. This dataset is one of a series created using earth observation imagery to assess surface change caused by energy exploration. The PBR area extends from Twp. 52, Rge. 7, W 5th Mer. to Twp. 70, Rge. 5, W 6th Mer., covering the …
The Forest Protection Area dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the administrative areas established by Forest Protection, Forestry Division of Alberta Agriculture and Forestry concerned with the prevention and control of damage to forests from fire, insects, disease and other harmful agents.
This GIS dataset depicts the surficial geology of the NTS map area 83N southeast (point features). The data are created in ArcInfo format and output for public distribution in Arc export (E00) and shapefile formats.
The Peat Application Area dataset depicts available land which may contain peat resources, and the requirement of a peat application in Alberta. Areas where peat exploration is not allowed due to environmental concerns such as the presence of waterbodies and rivers, trumpeter swan lakes, parks and protected areas, key wildlife and biodiversity areas, caribou zones, and HUC 8 watersheds with bull trout and arctic grayling were removed. This generalized product represents areas where a peat harvesting application can be submitted.
All available bathymetry and related information for Beaver Mines Lake were collected and hard copy maps digitized where necessary. The data were validated against more recent data (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 'SRTM' imagery and Indian Remote Sensing 'IRS' imagery) and corrected where necessary. The published data set contains the lake bathymetry formatted as an Arc ascii grid. Bathymetric contours and the boundary polygon are available as shapefiles.
This GIS dataset depicts the surficial geology of the NTS map area 84B (line features). The 1:250 000 scale dataset was compiled from four published 1:100 000 scale maps (AGS maps 265, 266, 267 and 267). The aggregated data was generalized by thinning out features where too dense to be represented clearly. The process was overseen by the mapping geologist. The data are created in ArcInfo format and output for public distribution in Arc export (E00) and shapefile formats.
The Geological Atlas of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin was designed primarily as a reference volume documenting the subsurface geology of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. This GIS dataset is one of a collection of shapefiles representing part of Chapter 12 of the Atlas, Devonian Woodbend-Winterburn Strata of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, Figure 31, Winterburn Group Depositional Elements and Index Map. Shapefiles were produced from archived digital files created by the Alberta Geological Survey in the mid-1990s, and edited in 2005-06 to correct, attribute and consolidate the data into single files by feature type and by figure.
This GIS dataset is part of a digital compilation of the bedrock geology of NTS areas 72E, 72L, 73D, and 73E. It is one of the datasets used to produce Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Maps 567, 568, 569, and 570. This dataset represents the compilation of existing geological maps and original geological mapping by AGS staff. Mapping included field observations and creating three-dimensional models of subsurface stratigraphy based on the interpretation of geophysical logs from oil and gas wells. Each three-dimensional formation surface was projected to a model of the bedrock surface, and the intersection formed the first approximation of …
Stratagex Ltd was contracted by the AGS in 2001 to compile a catalogue of all existing ground and airborne geophysical survey data contained in the archived mining assessment reports of the AGS, supplemented where possible with information on non-exclusive and proprietary surveys from exploration industry and other sources. This data set shows the airborne survey locations and detailed information about the survey including: Type of survey flown [fixed wing or helicopter. barometric (constant elevation) or drape (topographic contour following), Year of data acquisition and contractor, Description of the system flown [any one or combination of magnetics, VLF-EM, radiometrics, time domain …
The Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Unit dataset is comprised of the polygons representing Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Units in Alberta. Alberta Justice and Solicitor General, Government of Alberta, manages the Fish and Wildlife enforcement services to provide the public and other government departments' information regarding the locations of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Units throughout the province.
