The Geological Atlas of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin was designed primarily as a reference volume documenting the subsurface geology of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. This GIS dataset is one of a collection of shapefiles representing part of Chapter 24 of the Atlas, Uppermost Cretaceous and Tertiary Strata of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, Figure 4d, Schematic Lowest Horseshoe Canyon Paleogeography. Shapefiles were produced from archived digital files created by the Alberta Geological Survey in the mid-1990s, and edited in 2005-06 to correct, attribute and consolidate the data into single files by feature type and by figure.

The Cold Lake oil sands area - Township 56 to 69, Range 1 to 11, west of the 4th Meridian, falls within the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan (LARP). As part of Alberta's Land-use Framework, LARP was developed in 2012 to set the stage for robust growth, vibrant communities and a healthy environment within the region. One of its implementation objectives is to balance the economic development of oil sands and impacts on the ecosystem and environment. This is to be achieved through enhanced science-based monitoring for improved characterization of the environment and to collect the information necessary to understand cumulative …

The Central Parkland Vegetation Inventory (CPVI) Polygons is a dataset that was created to capture vegetation information for the Central (Aspen) Parkland Natural Subregion in Alberta. The Parkland Natural Region covers approximately 10% of the province and acts as a broad transitional area between the dry grasslands and the moist boreal forest. This region is characterized by productive soils, moisture levels and climatic conditions conducive to agriculture. The vegetation cover is a mosaic of aspen woodlands, wetlands, fescue grassland and riparian areas. The Central Parkland Natural Subregion is located in east-central Alberta. Other parkland subregions are located in the Foothills …

These data polygons are sites which were visited by Dr. Jozsef Toth during his 1964 to 1969 fieldwork. Dr. Toth is a distinguished hydrogeologist who developed and published his landmark 'Unit Basin' theory of steady state flow leading to the fundamental concept in hydrogeology known as 'Tothian flow system theory'. His contributions to hydrogeology turned the Research Council of Alberta, and subsequently the University of Alberta, into internationally renowned institutions for hydrogeological research. The sites in this data set show the locations of wetlands referenced in Alberta Geological Survey report INF 143 and they are numbered accordingly. The data are …

All available bathymetry and related information for Dillberry Lake were collected and hard copy maps digitized where necessary. The data were validated against more recent data (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 'SRTM' imagery and Indian Remote Sensing 'IRS' imagery) and corrected where necessary. The published data set contains the lake bathymetry formatted as an Arc ascii grid. Bathymetric contours and the boundary polygon are available as shapefiles.
