The data were validated against more recent data (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 'SRTM' imagery and Indian Remote Sensing 'IRS' imagery) and corrected where necessary. This dataset is a grid of the thickness of the Haynes aquifer within the Paskapoo Formation. The Haynes aquifer is a regionally extensive body of sand that lies in the bottom part of the Paskapoo Formation. The isopach was created from the modelled results of the average sandiness of 25 m thick slices in boreholes completed within the Paskapoo Formation. The dataset includes subsurface stratigraphic picks for the top of the Oldman Formation (base of the Dinosaur Park Formation) in the Alberta Plains (Townships 1 to 47, Ranges 1W4 to 5W5) made from wireline geophysical well logs. The dataset supplements Alberta Geological Survey Open File Report 2011-13, which describes the methodology used to make the picks. Well data were screened to detect errors resulting from deviated wells, as well as incorrect ground and kelly bushing elevation data. We used statistical methods to identify local and regional statistical outliers, which we examined individually.

This GIS dataset is one of a collection of shapefiles representing part of Chapter 13 of the Atlas, Devonian Wabamun Group of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, Figure 12, Net Pellets Isopach - Upper Stettler Fm. Shapefiles were produced from archived digital files created by the Alberta Geological Survey in the mid-1990s, and edited in 2005-06 to correct, attribute and consolidate the data into single files by feature type and by figure.
