This dataset is a shapefile depicting the suitability of geological setting in Alberta for waste management siting. It is derived from spatial analysis of other geological input, including: bedrock topography and morphology. occurrence of major buried drift aquifers, assumed on the basis of buried channel talwegs locations. surficial geology. bedrock geology. and, drift thickness. Areas of the province are ranked Suitable, Unsuitable or Uncertain where possible. other areas are masked by lakes or have insufficient data to rank them.

The drift thickness map of the Peerless Lake area (NTS 84B) shows the variation in thickness of unconsolidated sediment lying between the bedrock surface and the present-day land surface, and complements the Drift Thickness of Alberta map (Pawlowicz and Fenton, 1995). The thickness of the drift varies from locally less than 2 metres in Buffalo Head Hills to over 200 metres in the Loon River Lowland in the central part of the map area. Thick drift fills the major paleovalleys, which are the Muskwa Valley, the Red Earth Valley and Gods Valley. The drift is thinnest on the Peerless Lake …

The Cold Lake oil sands area - Township 56 to 69, Range 1 to 11, west of the 4th Meridian, falls within the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan (LARP). As part of Alberta's Land-use Framework, LARP was developed in 2012 to set the stage for robust growth, vibrant communities and a healthy environment within the region. One of its implementation objectives is to balance the economic development of oil sands and impacts on the ecosystem and environment. This is to be achieved through enhanced science-based monitoring for improved characterization of the environment and to collect the information necessary to understand cumulative …

All available bathymetry and related information for Pine Lake were collected and hard copy maps digitized where necessary. The data were validated against more recent data (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 'SRTM' imagery and Indian Remote Sensing 'IRS' imagery) and corrected where necessary. The published data set contains the lake bathymetry formatted as an Arc ascii grid. Bathymetric contours and the boundary polygon are available as shapefiles.

This GIS dataset depicts the surficial geology of the Chipewyan Lake area (NTS 84A/NW) (GIS data, polygon features). The data were created in geodatabase format and output for public distribution in shapefile format. These data comprise the polygon features of Alberta Geological Survey Map 572, Surficial Geology of the Chipewyan Lake Area (NTS 84A/NW).

This dataset is part of the three-dimensional (3-D) hydrostratigraphic model of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin in the Edmonton-Calgary Corridor, central Alberta. It represents the structure top of hydrostratigraphic unit (HSU) C1, which contains fine-grained materials underlying coarse-grained sediments of HSU S2 in the Neogene-Quaternary succession of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin. This dataset supplements Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Open File Report 2014-10, which includes a full description of steps taken to produce the structure grid.

The Geological Atlas of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin was designed primarily as a reference volume documenting the subsurface geology of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. This GIS dataset is one of a collection of shapefiles representing part of Chapter 17 of the Atlas, Paleographic Evolution of the Western Canada Foreland Basin, Figure 10, Dunvegan Paleogeography. Shapefiles were produced from archived digital files created by the Alberta Geological Survey in the mid-1990s, and edited in 2005-06 to correct, attribute and consolidate the data into single files by feature type and by figure.

A digital grid of the top of the Empress Formation where present, or the topography of the surrounding landscape, where the formation is absent. This includes the units 1 to 3 of the Empress Formation in buried valleys, as well as undifferentiated Empress interfluve sediments resting on the bedrock surface between buried valleys. The unit is originally modelled from borehole data and adjusted to the bedrock surface, the surfaces of units 1, 2, 3 and interfluve units of the Empress Formation, and the present-day land surface. The grid is generated at a 250 metre cell-size resolution, based on 2003 information.

Please note that this is the v1.0 version of DEP. a new version (v2.0) supercedes this dataset. The Derived Ecosite Phase (DEP) is a digital and spatial representation of ecological sites and phases in those areas of Alberta where both Alberta Vegetation Inventory (AVI) and LiDAR are available. The AVI is an imagery-based digital inventory developed to identify the type, extent and conditions of vegetation, where it exists and what changes are occurring. The most up-to-date ecological site phases can be found in the Plant Community Guides. Guides are broken into individual Natural Subregions. See the Cross Reference Section for …

The Alberta Regeneration Information System (ARIS) requires a unique identifier assigned to a cutblock to enable tracking within ARIS. This number is generated from a point roughly derived from the centre of the cutblock. The number is a concatenation of the point's legal description plus a grid cell number. The format is MRRTTTSSGG where M - Meridian, RR - Range, TTT - Township, SS - Section, GG - grid cell. The MRRTTSS information is derived with reference to the Alberta Township System. The grid cell is derived from a 10 by 10 grid that is overlaid on the section that …
