The Shore Unit Classifications Polygons depict the most current areas of Shorezone mapping for the Province of British Columbia. Shorezone is an aerial imaging, habitat classification, and mapping system used to inventory alongshore and across-shore geomorphological and biological attributes of the coast. Habitat attributes are interpreted from oblique aerial imagery acquired during the lowest tides of the year. The mapping project was first developed as an oil spill response tool for British Columbia, and now ShoreZone extends from Oregon to Alaska and has many other uses including ecological studies, marine conservation planning, coastal flooding and vulnerability assessments, and community education.
Benthic Marine Ecounits in coastal and offshore British Columbia. Benthic ecounits are intended to describe the sea bed and nearshore. Seven variables were selected to derive benthic ecounits: 1. Depth; 2. Slope; 3. Relief; 4. Temperature; 5. Exposure; 6. Current and 7. Substrate. CRIMS is a legacy dataset of BC coastal resource data that was acquired in a systematic and synoptic manner from 1979 and was intermittently updated throughout the years. The dataset represents “regional mines” as described in Part 9.1.1 and 10.1.1 of the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia. Notice of Work (NoW) is an application made to the province to apply for a permit under section 10 of the Mines Act, to explore for mineral and coal and develop placer, quarry and aggregate resources.
