The data represents the density of wetland habitat in the agricultural region of Alberta in 2002. Wetlands are depressional areas that are wet for a long enough period that the plant and animals living in them are adapted to, and often dependent on, living in wet conditions for at least part of their life cycle. In drier areas of the province, wetlands tend to be more intermittent, while in wetter areas, wetlands tend to be more persistent. Topography also affects the occurrence of wetlands. Hummocky landscapes allow for pooling of water in depressions, while landscapes with longer slopes (e.g. the …
All available bathymetry and related information for Cold Lake were collected and hard copy maps digitized where necessary. The data were validated against more recent data (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 'SRTM' imagery and Indian Remote Sensing 'IRS' imagery) and corrected where necessary. The published data set contains the lake bathymetry formatted as an Arc ascii grid. Bathymetric contours and the boundary polygon are available as shapefiles.
Alberta Geological Survey created a coal and coalbed methane (CBM) database to capture and manage CBM data. The database compiles different sources and contains information on 7923 wells (15,200 formation picks, 37,357 coal picks, 495 coal analyses and 363 vitrinite reflectance measurements). From this parent dataset, individual coal zone was evaluated. This record describes the Lethbridge Coal Zone's calculated gas in place in BCF/Section.
This grid dataset is part of the three-dimensional (3-D) hydrostratigraphic model of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin in the Edmonton-Calgary Corridor, central Alberta. It represents the net-to-gross sandstone ratio distribution within the Paskapoo Formation - Lower Composite Slice of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin. The Lower Composite Slice is one of three distinct geological domains identified in the Paskapoo Formation of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin model. Characterization of net-to-gross sandstone ratio distribution within the Paskapoo Formation provides information about the geological heterogeneity and potential hydraulic connectivity within the formation for input into a groundwater flow model. Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Open File …
All available bathymetry and related information for Floatingstone Lake were collected and hard copy maps digitized where necessary.
In 2014, the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) initiated a Play-Based Regulation (PBR) pilot project as a step towards implementation of the Unconventional Regulatory Framework. One of the goals of the PBR pilot is to encourage companies in the unconventional play area to work together on plans for surface development to minimize the numbers of facilities and surface impacts. This dataset is one of a series created using earth observation imagery to assess surface change caused by energy exploration. The PBR area extends from Twp. 52, Rge. 7, W 5th Mer. to Twp. 70, Rge. 5, W 6th Mer., covering the …
This digital dataset represents the modelled outputs of the three-dimensional distribution of sandiness in the Paskapoo Formation, Alberta, Canada. Sand-abundance values were determined from log analysis of water-well lithologs and petroleum exploration downhole-geophysical logs, specifically gamma-ray logs. We derived the sandiness values by calculating the average sandiness in 25 m thick slices above the base of the Paskapoo Formation in a borehole and by assigning the average value (P50) to the midpoint of each slice interval. Alberta Geological Survey Bulletin 66 provides detailed descriptions of the methodology. We tested the borehole sand-abundance values in a 3-D variogram prior to kriging …
This GIS dataset depicts the surficial geology of the NTS map area 84C Northwest ( point features). The data are created in ArcInfo format and output for public distribution in Arc export (E00) and shapefile formats.
All available bathymetry and related information for Ethel Lake were collected and hard copy maps digitized where necessary.
All available bathymetry and related information for Mitchell Lake were collected and hard copy maps digitized where necessary.
