Suggested Response:
R.1 - The $0.1 million increase in these Main Estimates compared to last year’s is entirely explained by economic increases relating to collective agreements. R.2 - Funding from the industry is from the following sources:
o dairy producers, through an annual fixed fee;
o the marketplace, through an annual fixed fee;
o profits from the CDC’s purchases and sales of butter in the context of national supply management; and
o Other cost recovery activities. R.3 - • The CDC plays a central facilitating role for the multi-billion-dollar Canadian dairy industry and offers a framework for the management of the industry as a whole.
• The CDC administers different programs that benefit Canadian farmers, food processors, and other players of the supply chain.
• In addition, to stimulate investments and growth in the use of Canadian milk and dairy ingredients in food processing, the CDC has developed and administers several industry programs.
• The CDC also administers programs for the industry on behalf of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and the CMSMC.
