• Canada is committed to renewing a nation-to-nation relationship with Indigenous peoples in Canada.

• On August 13, 2019, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Advancing Reconciliation with the Mohawk Council of Kanesatake.

• We continue to work in partnership to resolve the Commons of the Seigneury of Lake of Two-Mountains specific claim.

• Resolving this longstanding historical grievance through negotiation will be an important step in reconciliation with Kanesatake and the surrounding municipalities.

• Our government is committed to working towards reconciliation and supporting First Nations to advance self-determination.

• Canada is continuing to work with the Mohawks of Kanesatake to help and support advancing the community’s interests regarding economic development, community safety and security and land management.
