• Our Government is renewing the relationship between Canada and Indigenous people based on affirmation of rights, respect, co-operation, and partnership.

• The Supreme Court of Canada is hearing this matter today. The issues are complex and relate to whether Indigenous individuals that are not residents of Canada have and can exercise Aboriginal rights recognized and affirmed under s.35 of the Constitution Act, 1982.

• As this matter is before the courts, it would be inappropriate to comment further.
