• Canada is committed to working with First Nations to resolve historical grievances. We believe negotiation is always preferable to litigation and we stand by our agreements, as cornerstones of reconciliation.

• Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation challenged the Settlement Agreement that was negotiated in good faith and approved by all parties in 1990, resolving their Treaty Land Entitlement Claim.

• Canada remains committed to working in partnership with Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.

• As this matter is before the courts, it would be inappropriate to comment further.
