Suggested Response:

• This Government is committed to continuing to make progress resolving Indigenous Childhood Claims Litigation outside of the courts, wherever possible.
• Childhood Claims settlements balance individual with forward looking investments to support healing, wellness, language, culture, education and commemoration.
• Since 2016, this approach has resulted in the following:
- Newfoundland and Labrador Residential Schools Settlement Agreement
- Apology from the Prime Minister to former students of Residential Schools
- Sixties Scoop (Status Indians and Inuit) and McLean Indian Day Schools Settlement Agreements
- The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ile-a-la-Crosse Survivors Committee and the Métis Nation – Saskatchewan
- The partial settlement of the Gottfriedson Indian Residential Schools Day Scholars litigation
- Establishment of three survivor-driven foundations
• We recognize that there is more work to do to resolve litigation related to historic harms committed against Indigenous children.
