Suggested Response:

On January 20, 2022, the Government of Canada and the NCTR signed a Memorandum of Agreement outlining how and when Canada will share certain historical documents related to residential schools.

· To date over 1.5 million documents and higher quality images have been shared with the NCTR.

· An Advisory Committee comprised of federal, Survivor, Indigenous community and expert representatives has been formed to identify and share relevant documents of historical interest to the NCTR.

· We will continue to work collaboratively with the NCTR on document issues related to Indian Residential Schools.

Additional Information:

If pressed on Catholic Documents

· All parties have an obligation under the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement to disclose all relevant Indian Residential Schools documents to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

· Prime Minister has urged the Catholic Church and its entities to provide all documents related to missing children and burials at Indian Residential Schools.

· Our Government will continue to work collaboratively with survivors, the Catholic Church and the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation to release documents. We are hopeful that progress will continue to be made
