If pressed on Next Steps:
• There remain a number of important elements to be negotiated before the draft treaty can be finalized. Once finalized and signed-off by both parties, implementation legislation will be drafted and targeted for a fall 2023 introduction in the House of Commons.
• This is a bilateral treaty between Canada and the Manitoba Métis Federation, and is only binding on the signatories. Throughout the negotiations process, as key milestones were reached, information was shared with Manitoba provincial government.
• If subsequent negotiations begin with respect to jurisdictions that are currently under the authority of the provincial government, the Government of Manitoba will be invited to participate.
