Suggested Response:

• An independent Advisory Committee has been formed to lead a whole of government process to manage the sharing of Indian Residential Schools related documents to the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR).

• The Committee will provide a final report, including recommendations to the department to support further sharing of relevant documents with the NCTR.

In addition, over 5.5 million documents and higher quality images have been shared with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and NCTR to date.
• We will continue to support the Committee and work collaboratively with the NCTR on these documents.

Additional Information:

If pressed on Catholic Documents
• All parties have an obligation under the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement to disclose all relevant Indian Residential Schools documents to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
• The Prime Minister has urged the Catholic Church and its entities to provide all documents related to missing children and burials at Indian Residential Schools.
• Our Government will continue to work collaboratively with survivors, the Catholic Church and the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation to release documents. We are hopeful that progress will continue to be made.
