• In 2018, Canada reached a settlement with class members to provide compensation to Status Indian and Inuit who were adopted by or placed in long term care with non-Indigenous families during the Sixties Scoop.
• Of the 34,816 claims received, 99% have been assessed, and the remaining claims have been withdrawn.
• Eligible Class Members received payments of $25,000 each.
• Canada is expected to file a motion with the Federal Court to proceed with closing the administration of the Class Action.

• The Sixties Scoop is a dark and painful time in our history. Our government now has a settlement for Status First Nations and Inuit which represents a significant first step in resolving this historic injustice.
• Our government knows that there are other claims that remain unresolved, including those of the Métis and non-status.
• Canada is working with our partners toward a fair and lasting resolution for all survivors.
• Working together to bring a meaningful resolution to its painful legacy is an important step in our journey of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
• This settlement represents a historic milestone in Canada’s efforts to address the harm done by the Sixties Scoop for Status First Nations and Inuit, but it is only the first step.
• Our government remains committed to listening to those affected by the Sixties Scoop and ensuring they have what need to heal.
• The Sixties Scoop Healing Foundation – an independent, charitable foundation – was created as part of the Sixties Scoop settlement with direct input from survivors to support them, their families and their communities.
