Suggested Response:
• On November 30, 2024, in partnership with the Manitoba Métis Federation, we reached the historic milestone of signing the Red River Métis Self-Government Recognition and Implementation Treaty.
• This is the first self-government Treaty signed with the Métis. The Treaty recognizes the Manitoba Métis Federation as an Indigenous government with jurisdiction over core governance matters such as citizenship, elections, and internal affairs.
• We will be introducing implementing legislation to give the Treaty legal force and effect early in our government’s mandate.

Additional Information:
• If subsequent negotiations begin with respect to jurisdictions under the authority of the provincial government, the Government of Manitoba will be invited to participate.
• We also commit that if other self-government arrangements or areas of jurisdiction be negotiated, Canada will undertake meaningful consultations with Indigenous groups whose rights may be impacted.
