• There are ongoing court proceedings regarding the issue of Treaty annuities which have been initiated by various First Nation Plaintiffs in most Numbered Treaty areas, including Treaty 4.
• Honouring the Treaty relationship and working in partnership with Treaty 4 First Nations is key to advancing lasting reconciliation.
• The Government of Canada is committed to renewing the relationship between Canada and Aboriginal peoples on the basis of affirmation of rights, respect, cooperation and partnership. Canada will continue to work in a spirit of reconciliation and partnership with First Nations.
• Canada is currently awaiting the decision of the court on certification as a class action and will determine next steps following that decision.
