Suggested Response:
• Budget 2025 reinforces our commitment to reconciliation and focuses on Indigenous-led solutions particularly in housing, infrastructure, and governance.
• As part of the Government’s commitment to advancing major projects, the Federal Initiative on Consultation will continue to support Indigenous rights-holders in consultation processes, including through Indigenous-led resource centres and consultation protocols.
• The Budget also announces our intention to introduce amendments to the First Nations Fiscal Management Act to allow Indigenous special purpose vehicles to secure financing from the First Nations Finance Authority and purchase equity in businesses, natural resources and green energy projects under the Act.
Background:
As part of the support to advance major projects, the 2025 Federal budget proposed to invest $10.1 million over three years, starting in 2025-26, to Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada to continue leading the Federal Initiative on Consultation to support the meaningful participation of Indigenous rightsholders in consultation processes throughout the review cycle of national interest projects listed under the Building Canada Act, including through Indigenous-led resource centres and consultation protocols.
